Lucia Di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona

Lucia di Lammermoor is undoubtedly the best-known work of Gaetano Donizetti, even though his output was prolific. It has also been the most frequently performed and staged since its creation in 1835 at the San Carlo theater in Naples. It is one of the beacons of Italian Bel Canto and also one of the most typically romantic of Italian Operas. In 16th century Scotland, torn apart by the wars of religion and succession between Mary Stuart’s Catholics and James VI’s Reformist Protestants, two families, the Ravenswoods and the Ashtons are feuding. In the middle is an impossible love between Lucia, Ashton daughter, and Edgardo, Ravenswood son and sworn enemy of Enrico, Lucia’s brother. Underground wonders of France

There’s another world just a few meters under the ground: a world of rocks carved by time and the humidity of the deep. France is one of the world’s leading countries in underground tourism. The land that bred Jules Verne and his “Journey to the Center of the Earth” possesses hundreds of caves, caverns and other sinkholes, all open to the public. Miracles of nature, whose renown goes far beyond the borders of France. This film is an introduction to the owners of these treasures “six feet under” and it shows how they manage these unusual businesses. Using original technical means, we delve into the bowels of the earth to follow the work of those devotees who work day after day in these strange and staggering worlds.

Tracking Zika

Zika: this rather cute little name is that of a forest in Uganda where the virus of the same name was first identified in 1947. Since 2013, Zika, until then virtually forgotten at the far end of the world, has suddenly been in the glare of the spotlights. It tells the story of the impossible love between Rodolfo and Mimi in the world of the literary “bohemia” of XIXth century Paris. We follow the romance between our two heroes through a wonderful series of tableaux that portray the contagious joie de vivre of youth and the tragic waste caused by sickness and separation. This new, and highly theatrical production, transposes the action to the 1930s (100 years later than the original) with realistic, but traditional, sets created by Isabella Bywater for the staging by Jonathan Miller. The principal roles are sung by one of the most promising tenors, Saimir Pirgu, and the exciting soprano, Eleonora Buratto.

Explorers

The “Explorers” series shows how Europe plotted the maps of America and the Pacific between the 15th and 18th centuries. From these three prolific centuries of exploration, five illustrious characters stand out, standard bearers of some of the greatest voyages in the history of humanity. Five explorers for five films, each lasting 13 minutes:
• Amerigo Vespucci from Genoa, who gave his name to the “New World”.
• Magellan from Portugal, who, in the fury of the high seas, discovered the passage around this new continent and unlocked the door to a new ocean.
• Bougainville from France, who made France’s first round-the-world trip in the footsteps of Magellan.
• La Pérouse, who needs no introduction, was sent by King Louis XVI in response to the English domination of the seas.
• James Cook from England, the most illustrious navigatorexplorer of all time, who accomplished three trips to the Pacific in search of the Austral continent!

GLOBUL-X

A series for the whole family, but aimed especially at children between the ages of 4 and 9. Globul-X” the setting for action and discovery, alternates between Eliot’s daily adventures and adventures going on inside the human body with the “Globul-Xs”. Inside Eliot’s body, three super heroes, the Globul-Xs are on guard. And luckily so! Though Eliot is an endearing 7 year old boy, he does as he pleases and like all children his age he couldn’t care less about his health. Not so for the Globul-Xs! Encouraged and guided by Tana, Eliot’s brain, Pac the red blood cell, Zef the platelet and Doxi the white blood cell, they confront nasty viruses, small cuts or plain old dust... meaning that everyday there are many fights to be fought or calamities to be contained to accomplish their mission! AMIBITION: To offer in an edutainment format, a dynamic and attractive view of the effects inside the body during daily life via the “internal adventure”. Because of Eliot who refuses to protect himself from the sun, forgets to eat his breakfast or breathes in dust… the Globul-Xs have quite an adventure on their hands!
